Let’s just come right out and say it: 2020 has been a dud of a year so far. The coronavirus has turned into a global pandemic, and those who are able have been encouraged to self-isolate to mitigate the spread. In turn, people have rushed to the grocery stores and online retailers en masse, resulting in some food items being hard to find. And that in turn could lead to people having a harder time figuring out what to feed themselves and their families during this trying time as they scramble to come up with healthy recipes that use up what they already have on hand.

Fortunately, there’s a way you can find delicious and healthy recipes to make using what’s in your kitchen! With your Cooking Light Diet subscription, you can use our handy Search feature to find recipes that will help you use up your ingredients. Here’s how it works.

    Define Your Search

Let’s say you want to use up a rotisserie chicken (obviously this won’t be an item stored in your pantry, but the concept works the same with every ingredient, so work with me here people). When logged into your Cooking Light Diet account on your laptop or desktop, type the ingredient name in the Search bar in the upper lefthand corner of your screen. Then click the magnifying glass icon or press ENTER on your keyboard.

Your search results will then populate, showing you all the recipes—dinner, lunch, breakfast, and snack—that contain that ingredient. Total time to prepare recipes are displayed next to the recipe’s caloric values, meaning you can quickly determine if a recipe seems too labor-intensive for your schedule.

Important note: Where you can, refine your search term as much as possible. If you’re searching for recipes that will use up your rotisserie chicken, make sure and type “rotisserie chicken.” Typing just “chicken” will produce results for every recipe containing that term, so you’ll get recipes with chicken breasts, chicken thighs, chicken broth, etc. So just make sure your search is specific to what you hope to find!

    Find Your Meal

Peruse the search results and determine what meal you think you’d like to cook. If you’d like, you can also view the ingredients necessary to prepare that recipe to see if you have some/most of those on hand, too. Just click the recipe’s image and you’ll get a pop out displaying that recipe’s ingredients, instructions, nutritional information, and side prep.

    Schedule Your Meal

Once you’ve determined what meal you’re going to make, you can click the Schedule button below the recipe image.

This will trigger a popup menu that allows you to select the day you’d like to schedule your meal. Click your desired date(s).
